Celebrating St David’s Day in London

Cardiff & Co were the proud sponsors of the reception at the annual St David’s Day Dinner in London at the Guildhall.  Distinguished speakers included, The Mayor of London, The Right Honourable Boris Johnson, Lord Elystan Morgan, Mike Slade, CEO Helical Bar, and Andrew Gulliford, President of the St David's Day dinner and non-executive Director of Helical Bar.

The prestigious event was attended by 450 opinion formers, with connections to or an interest in Wales and presented an ideal platform for Cardiff, the capital of Wales to highlight recent achievements and to set out its stall for the future.

Cardiff & Co, Chairman Bill Savage, reflected on a year of significant change and progress in the capital. A year that saw Cardiff and the new SWALEC stadium rise to the challenge of hosting the first Ashes Test between England and Australia and pass with flying colours.  The new St David’s Retail Centre also opened its doors to the public in October, helping to elevate the city from 10th to 6th spot in Experian’s Retail Rankings. The city’s premier football and rugby clubs also moved into a new state of the art arena, suitable for their respective aspirations for success.

Bill Savage outlined Cardiff’s credentials as an excellent investment location and looked ahead to some significant developments planned for 2010. Notably, plans to build a new drama village in Cardiff Bay’s Roath Basin to house some of the BBC’s most popular productions.  Cardiff’s status as a sporting capital will also take another leap forward in the spring with the opening of an international standard Canoe Slalom and White Water Centre.
