CENTRE FOR CITIES RANKS CARDIFF AS 5TH OUT OF 64 CITIES FOR HIGH LEVEL SKILLS & 4TH FOR PRIVATE SECTOR JOBS GROWTH

Cardiff has scored well in important categories in the the Centre for Cities ‘Outlook 2010’.

‘Cities Outlook’ - the annual economic index - ranks the economic performance of 64 of the UK's largest cities and towns for the survey.

Cardiff scored 5th out of UK cities in the high-skilled cities category, the report says “cities with a concentration of high-skilled workers have greater potential to act as strong, independent economic centres and attract and grow knowledge-intensive business sectors”.

Cardiff also scored 4th in the rankings of cities with highest private sector jobs growth in the UK – “the pressing need to cut public spending means that it is the cities that are able to generate private sector jobs growth that will drive the economy in the years ahead”.

Cardiff also ranks 6th in the table for highest earnings growth and 5th for residents with high level qualifications.

Richard Thomas, Managing Director of Cardiff and Co said, “Cardiff has scored well on key indicators, which, despite the recession, will hopefully result in future growth.  We have three excellent university institutions in Cardiff that can underpin and contribute to knowledge sector businesses, which are so important to the city’s future success”.
