Launch-pad for £10 billion ICT Investment

Cardiff's offering as a global media node enables knowledge transfer from within the city in support of its growing sector expertise in Biosciences, Creative Industries and Financial and Business services. The city is the launch-pad for BT’s new £10 billion 21st Century Network investment that will make Cardiff the first city in the world to have access to phone calls, broadband and internet protocol services through a fully integrated platform based on IP technology.

Cardiff is home to an increasingly Competitive telecoms market.  BT has a fully enabled presence in the city, and most of the business community has the choice of cable. Cardiff also has a growing cluster of independent telecoms providers offering high-speed fibre and wireless solutions.

Cardiff is at the forefront of broadband and wireless roll-out in the UK. It was the first city in the UK to have significant wireless coverage, and will become one of the first to benefit from a contiguous wireless network across its central business district, through BT’s Wireless Cities Initiative. Cardiff also benefits from ubiquitous 8 MB broadband coverage, and is one of the first cities in the UK to benefit from BT’s roll-out of 24mb broadband in Summer 2009.

Cardiff is home to the acclaimed Intelligent Cities Initiative, a super-fast wireless network for the city’s media industry. It will soon benefit from a new European-class Render Farm providing huge data processing capacity for Cardiff’s burgeoning digital media sector.

The £90m Internet Data Centre in Cardiff offers secure data storage for your business – one of 22 such centres operated by BT worldwide regarded as a resource for international knowledge-based companies. In addition, Next Generation Data is to invest up to £200million within the city-region to create one of Europe’s largest and most technically advanced ‘green’ data-centres.
